We are happy to feature Kelly Scaccia (Taylor), a photographer, creative entrepreneur and proud Mom of the Class of 1992!
A talented photographer, studio owner, and dedicated Bishop Foley Alumni Board member, Kelly embodies the spirit of Foley in both her professional and personal life.
Falling in Love with Foley
Love is in the air this month at Foley, and Kelly Taylor (now Scaccia), BFC Class of ‘92, is no exception! She stole the hearts of her teachers, the administration, and her Foley
friends—and she also stole the heart of her former classmate, David Scaccia, Class of ‘91, becoming his one and only Valentine.
Kelly shares, “I have great recollections of many educators who were patient, endearing, complimentary, and personal — letting me know I was never just a number to them. I am
thankful to my parents for sending me to Foley. I know it was a sacrifice on their end, and for that, I will always be grateful.”
Kelly and her husband found the education, values, and lifelong relationships Foley provided to be invaluable. Because of this, they happily chose to put their three daughters through
parochial schools as well.
A Catholic Education Shines Bright
The impact of a Bishop Foley Catholic education can be seen from miles away! Kelly didn’t fully realize this until after graduation and when she became a parent herself.
“In college, a professor asked me if I had attended a parochial school. I told her ‘yes,’ and she replied, ‘It shows,’” Kelly said proudly.
As a Communications, and honors graduate from Central Michigan University, Kelly effortlessly helped her college classmates with their coursework, thanks to the strong educational foundation
Foley provided. This had surprised her because of the wealth of knowledge she had consumed at Foley, she was easily able to transition and succeed her way into getting her college degree in a
breeze! “...I also realized I had learned accountability and discipline during my years at Foley, thanks to the dedicated teachers and staff.”
Kelly and her husband invested in their daughters' education as well. One of their daughter’s doctors even commented that he could always spot a Catholic school student based on their
English assignments, as those skills were the most proficient!
God’s Plan
When asked what advice she would give to current BFC students, Kelly, now an Alumni Board member, answered sincerely, “Be open and trusting to God's plan as you branch out into your
future and build your life.”
Theology at Foley is one of the key pieces missing in public education. With Foley’s strong foundation in faith, the school provides students with the best educators to help navigate
life’s ups and downs. Kelly’s daughter, a BFC alumna from the Class of 2019, practices this mantra, “When we make plans, God laughs…” Understanding that He has
a funny way of showing it—but always trusting His plans!
The Foley Connection
It has been over 30 years since Kelly and her classmates proudly graduated from Bishop Foley, but the connections haven’t faded! She has been fortunate to help plan reunions for the
Class of ‘92.
“Reunions are important and pivotal for staying connected and making new connections with classmates…”she shares. She now finds a commonality with her fellow classmates as
an adult then when she was a teen roaming through Bishop Foley halls!
The four years at Foley gave Kelly and her family a lifetime of friendships — ones that continue to thrive over dinners, wine nights, and trips up north in our beautiful state of
Michigan!
