We are absolutely thrilled to kick off 2025 with our January Alumni Spotlight featuring the one and only Kevin Swift, BFC ‘07! From a bright-eyed student at Bishop Foley Catholic to a dedicated teacher and mentor, Kevin's journey is one to celebrate and admire.
Community & Connection: You Belong Here
“From my first time stepping in the door at Open House, I have seen Foley be a welcoming, inviting place that strives to make everyone feel like they belong," Kevin shares.
Bishop Foley Catholic has always embraced its community and surrounding areas, offering students a sense of family and friends who encourage them to pursue their passions. Kevin found his home and passion for teaching and mentoring through his love of robotics and technology.
The FIRST Robotics team at Foley, known as Foley Freeze, provides students the opportunity to hone their skills while fostering a sense of community and connection. Now the head coach of this incredible team, Kevin says, “In staying involved through our FIRST Robotics…, that has been a driving factor and goal for me here.” The program has had sustained success over the years and has grown this year with the addition of a second FIRST team, which is integrated into one of Kevin’s engineering classes. “By adding this second team, my goal is to make FIRST more accessible to Foley students who have an interest but find the after-school time commitment challenging to balance with sports or other activities.”
Something About the Foley Cookies
When asked about his favorite memory as a student, Kevin didn’t hesitate: the Famous Foley Cookies! “Foley cookies, medium rare,” he says, describing the perfect batch with a gooey, soft center. Fun fact: the cookies weren’t always a Foley staple. They gained popularity in the mid-’90s—long after Cookie Monster first fell in love with the treat!
From Student Life to Career Life
At Bishop Foley Catholic, teachers are more than educators—they're lifelong mentors guiding students to grow, learn, and achieve success. Reflecting on what helped him prepare for college, his career, and personal development, Kevin says, “I had amazing teachers that prepared me well not just to regurgitate information but to seek to understand the point of what you're learning or doing. Some of them are still here and give me guidance on my own teaching regularly.”
We are truly blessed to have dedicated teachers who invest their time and energy into helping students reach their full potential.
Advice From Your Teacher
As a proud graduate of 2007, Kevin now teaches Technology and Engineering classes at Foley, where he uses his expertise in tech and robotics to connect with students every day. His advice for current BFC students is simple yet profound: “Remember the point of what you've learned. Dig a little deeper than the surface and focus on what really matters.”
Shaping Our Alumni Community
Kevin has held a valuable seat on our Alumni Board for many years! As the Chair, he has made tremendous strides in engaging and involving Bishop Foley Catholic alumni. Under his leadership, alumni are encouraged to return, share their knowledge and experiences with current students, and rediscover their connection to the place they once called "home." Kevin has also fostered a sense of purpose for alumni, inspiring them to give back and contribute to the legacy of Bishop Foley Catholic.
If you’d like to say hello to Kevin Swift, he’d love for you to stop by the school for a visit. Let’s celebrate Kevin’s journey, passion, and contributions to the Bishop Foley Catholic family!
